As we grow up, our surroundings grow up too. We spend each day barely thinking about the previous one and then one fine day, we wake up to find that everything is changed and the future we dreamt of is now our present, in ways both happy and sad.
(English Translation)
I flip through the fables of my childhood books
and all previous characters seem misplaced.
I search for friends from my childhood playdates
but all those homes feel displaced.
I wonder how quickly time flew by
and the bars of success got raised.
Long back, won kites used to give me joy
and now, bought luxuries find me spaced.
The opening tune felt straight out of memory
but I found the lyrics all defaced.
There were hearts who trusted their keys with me
but now, their locks are replaced.
My street where I learnt how to walk
now finds me all wondering and dazed.
In this continuous battle to prove myself,
all my original dreams got erased.

This is amazing!! Honestly not very comfortable with poetry in Hindi so I thought I’ll read the first two lines and skip to the English.. But you really got me hooked on and I absolutely loved the Hindi version as well! Brilliant 🙂

Wow. What a powerful piece from start to finish.
When you look back… and you realise everything has changed. Even the keys to your heart and others too. Even sentiments associated with shows we grew up on. *shivers*

It was beautiful, Neha, but this excerpt spoke to the musician in me:
The opening tune felt straight out of memory
but I found the lyrics all defaced.
There were hearts who trusted their keys with me
but now, their locks are replaced.
